Independence Day, also known as the Fourth of July, marks the nation’s founding and the July 4, 1776, signing of the Declaration of Independence: a letter announcing the separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain.  As the Fourth of July weekend nears, patriotism fills the air.  Sparklers crackle, fireworks thunder the skies and paint them in brilliant colors, and grills throughout the country fill backyards’ air with the sweet smell of cheeseburgers and hot dogs.

Are you prepared to have a fun, festive, Fourth of July celebration that your friends and family will rave about for the rest of the year?  Sometimes living in an apartment doesn’t exactly inspire to you plan a get-together or get creative decorating, but why not?  You might not have enough room for 20 people, but you can probably comfortably fit 10, and your neighbors will enjoy your decorations even if they don’t say so.

Independence Day is just around the corner, and we’ve got some ways you can have one of the most patriotic apartments in your community as well as a few enjoyable ways for you to celebrate.

American flags should definitely be part of your Fourth of July party ensemble.  When it comes to representing our nation’s colors, however, don’t stop with flags.  Use red, white, and blue tablecloths, napkins, paper plates, candles, and more.  Add food coloring to your drinks and teats to make patriotic desserts and cocktails.  How about planting a flower pot with red, white and blue flowers?  There is no such thing as too much red, white, or blue when it comes to throwing a Fourth of July party.

The beginning of July is usually associated with extremely high temperatures making Independence Day the hottest Holiday of the year.  The Fourth of July is a holiday off from work for most people, so really take the day off and relax by some water.  Our Westwood Residential and Taylor Land Two communities are master designed to have sparkling, resort-style swimming pools for you to enjoy.  Take advantage of this amenity and get outdoors!   Who doesn’t love a good barbeque during an afternoon escape to the pool?  Grab your friends, mingle with neighbors, throw some burgers on our grills and celebrate the day away!

Tailor your Fourth of July playlist to the prevailing musical tastes of your guests, but be sure to incorporate several patriotic tunes into the mix. Songs such as Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA,” Tom Petty’s “American Girl,” Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA,” Don McLean’s “American Pie,” Martina McBride’s “Independence Day,” and Neil Diamond’s “America” are all great to jam out to on Independence Day.

To watch that is.  Remember, it’s illegal to set off fireworks at apartment communities across the country, so don’t even think about it!  Instead, grab your friends and check out the many firework shows across your city.  Considering the Fourth of July falls on a weekend day this year, there may be plenty of firework shows to catch both Friday and Saturday evening.   Check with your Leasing Office and they can direct you to the biggest, brightest and loudest firework celebration in your area!  Don’t forget to bring your red, white, and blue blankets and pillows when you go!

Stay SafeFlags Big

However you’ll be celebrating the Fourth of July this year, remember to stay safe.  If you’re headed out for some recreation during the day, drink lots of water and wear sunscreen.  If you’re going to a cook-out, make sure you’re not too partied out to drive home.  If you’re staying in and having some friends over, be respectful of the volume of your patriotism.

Throw a fun-filled party with patriotic food, drinks, and games, and fun is sure to follow. Keep your guest list from growing too large, be respectful of shared community amenities, and your apartment community can provide the perfect setting for a memorable Independence Day celebration.
