The Cost Of Moving

Let’s be honest: moving is hard work, time-consuming work, expensive work and sometimes it’s worth not moving at all.

Here are some hidden costs that you should consider before the big move.

Additional boxes

When it comes to boxes and moving, it seems as though you can never have enough, especially if you’re moving breakable items.

You seldom think about it, but you’ll need to clean your old place before you leave and you’ll want to clean your new place.

Truck costs

If you’re doing it yourself, you’ll pay for more than just the truck rental.  You may need insurance (check with your auto insurance carrier and credit card Company, as you might already be covered). Gas is another factor; you’ll most likely have to return the truck full, and it’s a big tank.

Bad packing jobs

Movers who are paid by the job are more likely to rush, which means bad packing jobs that can lead to you having to replace items out of your pocket.

Idle time

Movers can bill by the hour or by the job.  If they bill by the job, they’ll move fast.  But if they’re going by the hour, it might not go as fast.  And good luck trying to get an exact rate from a moving company when you shop around for quotes.

Damaged/broken items

If your friends are helping you, there’s no way that you’ll get them to pay for anything they break.  You have two options: pay for it yourself or file a claim against your homeowner’s policy.

Cost of living while you settle in

During the time that it takes you to get settled, you’ll be eating out and generally spending money at a faster rate than you would if you were at home.

Moving can be a major headache!! No matter how much you plan, there’s probably something that you’ve missed.  And what you missed will probably come back to haunt you during the move in the form of extra costs.

We say why not kick up your feet and stay put in your beautiful apartment home?  Relax and enjoy the Westwood difference!
